Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-09-12

By downloading or using Hourly Journal – on iOS, Android, or the web at app.hourlyjournal.com – you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. These terms are between you and One Simple Life.

If you installed the app from the App Store or Google Play, the store’s own licence terms also apply to that copy of the app. Where those terms and these ones conflict, the store’s terms win for that copy. See “App Store and Google Play” below.

The app and your licence

Hourly Journal is built by One Simple Life. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal use. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app, or use our trademarks, without permission. The app itself, and everything in it other than your own content, belongs to One Simple Life.

Your content

Your journal entries, tags and any other content you create belong to you. By using the service, you give us the limited right to store, sync and process that content so we can provide the app to you – for example, showing it back to you across your devices, summarising it in a weekly digest you have switched on, or including it in a data export you request. That right exists only to run the service for you, and it ends when you delete the content or your account. We do not claim ownership of your content, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.

You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. You can export your entire journal at any time, free, from Manage Profile.

Your account

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us, and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to your account. You must be old enough to consent to these terms where you live; the service is not directed at children under 13 (see our Privacy Policy).

Acceptable use

Do not use Hourly Journal to do anything illegal, to abuse or attack our systems, to access another person’s account, to scrape or resell the service, or to interfere with other users’ ability to use it. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this.

Not medical or professional advice

Hourly Journal is a personal journaling and time-tracking tool. It is not a medical device, and nothing in the app – including moods, energy levels, sleep and wake summaries, or anything shown in Deep Report – is medical, psychological, or professional advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation. It simply reflects back what you recorded. If you have a health concern, speak to a qualified professional.

Subscriptions and purchases

Hourly Journal offers a free plan and a paid Premium plan. Premium is sold as:

  • a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, each including a 14-day free trial – a valid payment method is required to start a trial, and if you do not cancel before the trial ends you will be charged for the plan you selected; or
  • a one-time lifetime purchase, which does not renew.

Depending on where you buy, your purchase is processed by one of:

  • Apple’s App Store, for an iOS in-app purchase;
  • Google Play, for an Android in-app purchase; or
  • on the web at app.hourlyjournal.com, by Paddle.com, our reseller and merchant of record for web purchases outside India, or by Razorpay for web purchases made in India.

A subscription renews automatically for the same period, at the then-current price, until you cancel. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends; renewals are charged within the 24 hours before the period ends. Cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the current period, and your Premium access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription. You can cancel a web subscription from your account settings, and a mobile subscription through App Store or Play Store subscription management on your device.

Refunds are handled under our Refund Policy. App Store and Play Store purchases are refunded by Apple or Google under their own policies, not by us directly.

Prices are shown in the currency and amount set for your region and purchase channel at checkout, and may differ between the App Store, Play Store, Paddle and Razorpay. We may change prices for future billing periods; if we do, we will tell you before the change takes effect, and you can cancel if you do not want to continue.

App Store and Google Play

These terms are between you and One Simple Life, not with Apple or Google. Apple and Google are not responsible for the app or its content, and have no obligation to provide any support or maintenance for it. If the app fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price of the app; beyond that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation in respect of the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Service changes and availability

We may change, add to or remove features, and may need to update the app for it to keep working. Some features require an internet connection; we are not responsible for the app not working at full functionality when you have no connectivity. We try to keep the service available and your data safe, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. If we ever discontinue the service, we will give you reasonable notice and time to export your data.

Ending these terms

You can stop using Hourly Journal at any time, and delete your account from Manage Profile in the app or Settings on the web. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to by law. When an account is deleted, we handle the data as described in our Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not by itself cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Play Store – cancel that through the store as well.

Limitation of liability

The app is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including lost data or lost profits. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep all the statutory rights your local law gives you, and nothing here overrides them.

General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our not enforcing a term straight away does not mean we have given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to someone else; we may transfer ours if the business is sold or reorganised, and your rights will not be reduced by that. Together with the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, these terms are the whole agreement between us about the service.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the updated terms.
