HOURLY JOURNAL FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

A daily journal for the moments that make up real life

Most days are not milestones — but they are still your life. Hourly Journal makes it easy to keep the small moments: the errand, the conversation, the workday, the quiet hour, the time you did not want to forget.

Free to start on iOS, Android and the web. Journaling, tags, moods and insights stay free forever.

Your ordinary day is worth keeping

You genuinely cannot remember last Tuesday.

Not because it was bad. Because nothing about it flagged itself as worth keeping, so it went the way most Tuesdays go.

You'd journal, but the blank page asks too much.

Most journals want three paragraphs about your inner life. Some days you have three words, and “errands, tired, fine” is an honest summary of all of them.

“Where did the day go” is something you say most weeks.

It isn't really a figure of speech. Nothing wrote the day down as it happened, so there's nowhere to look it up afterwards.

HOW THE HOURS GET LOGGED

One ordinary week, hour by hour

  1. 1

Log the dull hour, not just the good one

Chores, errands, an hour of nothing in particular. Tag it anyway — the unremarkable hours are the ones that disappear first and fastest.

  2. 2

Let three words be a finished entry

“Groceries, tired” is complete. There's no minimum length, no prompt to answer, and nothing lost by keeping it short.

  3. 3

Look back after a week, not after a day

One day tells you very little. Seven days of tags may show you how the week actually split between Chores, Family and Relax — which is often not the split you'd have described.

The Hourly Journal 12:00 PM check-in, with an empty note box, a Pick a Tag button, a mood picker, and a Journal It button to save the entry
This is the whole interaction: one hour, one question, a tag and a mood, then Journal It. Words optional.

SUGGESTED TAGS

Tags for a normal, unremarkable day

Nothing aspirational here — chores, errands, the hour you did nothing in particular. Those are the ones that vanish first, so they're the ones worth naming.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

A Wednesday nobody would have written down

8 AMChoresDishes, laundry, the usual
11 AMErrandsPost office, then the shop
2 PMRelaxNothing planned, and it was great
6 PMFamilyDinner, everyone at the table
10 PMSleepEarlier than usual, for once

Nothing happened on this day. That's rather the point — a year of these is what a life is mostly made of.

Questions about journaling an ordinary day

Isn't an hourly reminder a lot of notifications?

It only runs between your wake and sleep times — 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM by default — and you can widen the interval to every two or three hours in Journal Settings.

What happens if I skip a whole day?

Nothing. The hours stay blank. You can long-press to log a stretch of them later, or leave them empty — a journal with gaps in it is still a journal.

Do I need to write a lot?

No. A tag and a mood is a complete entry on its own; the note is optional and there's no minimum length when you do write one.

Your ordinary days are worth keeping

You do not need a special occasion or a perfect routine. Start with one hour today and build a record of your real days from there.
